The varroosis reported for the first time in Cuba in 1996 and since then is the
worst kind of entity pathogenic beekeeping in the country. Immediately
effectiveness tests were required for the registration of a chemical synthesis:
Bayvarol ® (flumethrin), to combat it and its use has remained steady so far.
Since 2002, alternating with products based on essential oils, but it's
necessary to seek other alternatives to avoid the rapid emergence of resistance
to mite flumethrin. From 2005 began an assessment in several apiaries City of
Havana and Havana Province to check the effectiveness of current Bayvarol ®,
valuing the use of oxalic acid as a possible alternate, and a preliminary
assessment of another chemical synthesis, but of different molecule to Bayvarol,
